Bring Fresh flowers into your home to make you smile

How to style your home with fresh flowers to bring joy, colour and happiness to your day.

I am flower obsessed and am always picking flowers on the sidewalk and filling my vases around the house. I also like to go to my local flower market early on a Friday to pick some flowers for the weekend. I am lucky that I live close to Farmgate Flowers Toowong market which represents local wholesale suppliers in Tasmania and Australia and also to the Brisbane Flower Market which represents flower wholesalers. When doing client installs and styling my projects for photo shoots, I love to source different vases and include seasonal flowers in my styling to make the spaces look lived in and add colour. Flowers can improve your mood and also add warmth and colour to your home. Here are my tips on how to style flowers in all the areas of your home to give you some inspiration and also what to style your flowers with. Maybe this will encourage you to duck to your local flower market this weekend or go foraging for flowers to fill your house with colour and happiness.

Mix flowers on your coffee table with accessories and books

Place a vase of flowers on your coffee table on a tray or straight onto the table and mix it up with some coffee table books or a pile of magazines and add a candle to enjoy the mix of scents. A colourful vase to pick up the colours in the room and the blooms will add some fun.

Set your dining table with flowers for dinner and to last all week

Having friends for dinner? What a great excuse to buy flowers for the centre of the table and when the dinner is over you can enjoy them for the rest of the week. A special vase always elevates the blooms and the table setting. Do you have a special vase hiding in your cupboard you may have received for your wedding present or perhaps you have one that was your mothers or your grandmother’s you could use or search for an interesting vase at a vintage store.

Create a beautiful welcome to your home

Create a beautiful welcome to your home with a vase of flowers on your entry table. I love Hydrangeas and the bigger the bunch the better. Combine the vase of flowers with some coffee table books, a colourful ornament or pretty candle.

Pop a vase of flowers beside your bed to wake up to

Bedside tables sometimes become a dumping ground. Instead of filling your bedside with your books, glasses, tissue box etc, create a calm feeling in your room by adding a vase of flowers, and a pretty accessory or candle. Put the other paraphernalia in the drawer or in a basket under the bedside if you do not have a drawer. It’s ok of course to keep the book you are reading on your bedside but place your pile of other books in the basket or back on the shelf.

Centre a large vase of flowers on your sofa table

I love symmetry and in my home I have matching lamps on either side of my sofa table so a large vase of flowers in the middle is my favourite way to style this space. I also love to add books and some of my favourite accessories but not too cluttered. Have fun spoiling yourself and styling your home with flowers.

GABE’S STYLING tip

ALWAYS BUY AT LEAST 2-3 BUNCHES OF FLOWERS AS ONE IS NEVER ENOUGH TO FILL A VASE AND LOOK ABUNDANT.
